Leopard shark

Requin Leopard madagascar p

This sand shark only lives in temperate and warm waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It can grow up to 3 meters, but generally does not exceed more than 2 meters (with a tail as long as its body). It is a nocturnal predator that feeds on mollusks (bivalves, sea snails), small bony fish, crustaceans (shrimp, crab) and sea snakes. Present throughout the year in Nosy Be, including Nosy Tanikely, it is completely harmless to humans and is easily approached.

The devil ray lives from the surface to 20-30 meters deep. This species is mainly found on the surface ocean waters above the continental shelf. Significant concentrations are observed in Nosy Be when the plankton concentration is highest (October to December). We often see them when feeding, or when they jump out of the water!
